What are the IP addresses for live accounts?

When you launch the client terminal, it connects to our server loading a list of IP addresses. If you indicate an IP address, not a symbol-type server name when you log in for the first time, the next time you launch Metatrader 4 the application automatically loads the names of available trading servers. The IP address you previously typed in will be changed to the symbol type name of the server (for example ‘Alpari US - Live'.

Should one of the servers become unavailable, the client terminal automatically switches to the next available server. Your “connection status” is found in the bottom right of the MetaTrader 4 platform. If you are not automatically connected, you can manually choose from the following server names found within your “connection status.”

    live-1.alpari-us.com

    live-2.alpari-us.com

    live-3.alpari-us.com

In case you cannot find these server names, type in the below shown IP address:

    208.122.38.254:443

Is it possible to access my Live Account on MT4 from different computers?

Yes. It is possible to log in into your Live and/or Demo trading accounts from any computer that has Alpari (US)'s MetaTrader 4 platform downloaded. You can even be logged in from different computers simultaneously.

We advise you to be careful with your logins and passwords. If you save your MetaTrader password on a particular PC anyone who has access to it will be able to trade on your account.

How is the time shown in MT4 for the Standard and Pro Account types?

Our MT4 Standard account server time is stated as Greenwich Meantime (GMT) +3. The MT4 Pro account server time is stated as GMT+3. The time displayed in the Market Watch window states the last price movement for any available instrument.

  • Answer Close 6

How can I switch the time zone in MT4?

You cannot switch the time zone in MT4; the time zone of our trading servers is always GMT+3. This allows us to avoid having small candlesticks on Sundays and therefore allows to run the technical analysis and back testing smoothly and straight forward.

  • Answer Close 7

Why does the trading terminal show that I have zero profit in dollars, but I can see my profit on open positions in points?

This happens if you have an open position on a cross rate (for example, EUR/GBP), and the quote currency (in our example - GBP/USD) has been deleted from the Market Watch window and the client terminal has no information to convert profit/loss into US dollars.

Please add the relevant currency pair to the Market Watch window.

  • Answer Close 8

How do I see my trading history?

Please open the 'Terminal' window (press Ctrl+T on your keyboard) and select the 'Account History' tab. Right click to enable the context menu, which will allow you to save your trading history as an .html file that can be viewed outside the trading platform..

How can I add an EA?

Save your expert advisors to C: "Program Files" - "MetaTrader - Alpari US" - "experts," and then restart MetaTrader. The Expert Advisor file should appear in the navigator window in MetaTrader. To trade with that expert advisor on a specific currency, left click it and drag it into a chart of that currency.

  • Answer Close 12

What do I do if the attached Expert Advisor does not work?

Begin by checking if trading is allowed by going to 'Tools -> Options -> Experts tab -> Allow live trading'. Then make sure that the Expert Advisor button on the main tool bar is pressed.

You should be able to see a smiley face in the top right-hand corner of your chart to show that you have activated your EA correctly. If everything appears to be okay but the EA is still not working properly, see your log files via the 'Experts' tab in the 'Terminal' window (you should be able to see what error occurs). Please note that Alpari (US) does not support EA's and that if any questions arise in regards to the functionality of an EA, we advise you to contact the programmer or seller of that EA.

so: 99.6%/562.5/564.8: I received a similar comment in my trading history statement, what does it mean?

In order to be in compliance with NFA requirements, Alpari (US) has to Stop Out (close) your position if the equity in the account is below 100% of the required margin.

If your position has been stopped out, you will see a comment in your MT4 platform trading history statement, which looks similar "so: 99/6%/562.5/564.8." This comment represents the specifications of your stop out position, as follows:

    • so - Stop Out

•99.6% - the % of required margin at which this position was stopped out

•$562.50 – The equity at which the position was closed (equal to 99.6%)

•$564.80 – The required margin for this position

If you, as a customer, have several open positions, the first position which has to be placed in the queue in order to be closed is the one with the highest floating loss.

    Example:

Let’s assume that the price to buy 1 lot of EURUSD is 1.4010. The equity in the account is $2,000. To buy 1 lot of EURUSD, you need $1, 4010.00. If your position moves in the opposite direction than you have predicted and your equity goes down to $1, 400 (< 100% of 1.4010), MetaTrader 4 will automatically close your position to prevent further losses.

Why am I prohibited from hedging in MT4?

As of May 15, 2009, the NFA has prohibited all Forex Dealer Members from allowing clients to open hedged positions.

Any attempt to open a hedged position through MetaTrader 4 will be prohibited and clients will be notified in two ways:

    1. When opening a hedged position through the order window, you will see the following:

              prohibit_hedging_mt4

    2. Further, in the Account History tab or your Client Terminal Settings, you will receive a message indicating that your position has been prohibited. Please see the following example:

    Example:

05:26:49 '2508': order sell stop 0.40 GBPJPY opening at 157.01 sl: 0.00 tp: 0.00 failed [Hedge is prohibited]

Please note that MetaQuotes Corporation is current working on a more efficient way to improve trading under the new NFA regulations. We encourage all traders to continually check the Alpari (US) Company News for any updates.

I have received a message that says "trade context is busy." What does this mean?

You will receive the message "trade context is busy" if you have placed two or more orders simultaneously. You have received this message because you have not waited until your trade has fully processed before placing another. In order to resolve this issue, please restart the MT4 platform.
